Situation under control, LPG, petrol & fertiliser supply normal: Officials

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has adequate availability of both petroleum products and fertilisers, with supply chains functioning normally and stocks sufficient to meet current demand, senior officials overseeing fuel and agricultural inputs in the state said.

Executive director of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and state level coordinator (SLC) of oil marketing companies (OMCs), Sanjay Bhandari, said that the supply position of petrol, diesel and LPG in Uttar Pradesh is “completely normal and under control”.




He attributed stability to robust infrastructure, continuous monitoring and coordination between OMCs and the state administration.

The state currently has 13,168 retail outlets, including 12,331 operated by OMCs and 863 private outlets, supported by 28 supply depots.

On average, 1.6 crore litres of petrol and 3 crore litres of diesel are supplied daily. As of now, UP has sufficient petrol stock for 18 days and diesel stock for 16 days, ensuring there are no constraints on retail sales.

Bhandari said that nozzle sales between Jan and March 2026 have remained in line with normal consumption patterns, indicating stable demand. He appealed to citizens to avoid panic buying and refrain from spreading rumours about shortages.

On LPG front, the state serves around 4.88 crore consumers through 4,143 distributors and 36 bottling plants.

“A backlog of approximately 4.5 days is being cleared systematically as per the booking queue. LPG supply remains stable, with a present allocation level of 68% being maintained according to the guidelines of the Govt of India,” said Bhandari.

OMCs have registered up to 40% rise in number of complaints regarding late delivery.

Additional director of agriculture department, Ashutosh Kumar Mishra, said the availability of chemical fertilisers in the state is satisfactory ahead of kharif season.

Against Kharif 2026 target of 61.5 lakh metric tonnes, availability of up to April 6 stands at 26.22 lakh metric tonnes, with 25.58 lakh metric tonnes already distributed and 3.51 lakh metric tonnes remaining in stock.

Urea continues to account for the largest share, with over 11.39 lakh metric tonnes available so far, followed by Diammonium phosphate (DAP) at 4.93 lakh metric tonnes, NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) at 4.76 lakh metric tonnes, single super phosphate (SSP) at 3.53 lakh metric tonnes and most concentrated form of granular potassium (MOP) at 0.97 lakh metric tonnes.

“We have sufficient stock of urea till June month. At present, combined cooperative and private sector stocks include around 11.38 lakh metric tonnes of urea and nearly 14.88 lakh metric tonnes of other fertilisers,” said Mishra.

He said guidelines were in place to ensure equitable distribution to farmers at notified prices, with limits fixed per hectare. “Inspections, stock verification and monitoring of sales centres are being carried out to prevent hoarding, overpricing and illegal diversion, especially in seven border districts of Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

Both officials reiterated that there was no shortage of essential fuel or fertilisers in Uttar Pradesh and urged the public and farming community to rely on official information and avoid unnecessary concern.

No new LPG consumer registration until crisis ends

The oil marketing companies (OMCs) have clarified that no new LPG consumers registration is being entertained. The restriction will continue until the West Asia crisis ends. However, consumers can obtain a 5kg mini-LPG cylinder from distributors after submitting valid address proof.

OMCs have claimed that Uttar Pradesh has recorded 28,210 new PNG consumers in the last one month. Thirteen city gas distribution (CGD) companies have 20.94 lakh consumers in the state. Notably, according to data from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), over 2.39 crore households have been covered with domestic PNG network, but the adoption rate is low among consumers.
