Four lakh police staff to benefit from hike in uniform allowance
Lucknow: A 70% hike in uniform allowances for all police personnel, marking the first increase since 2019, will benefit 4 lakh police employees, ranging from inspectors to Class IV staff.It will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 58 crore for the state. "The sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors, who previously received Rs 7,500 every five years, will now receive Rs 3,000 annually. Similarly, head constables and constables, who used to get Rs 3,000 annually, will now receive Rs 5,000 per year. Likewise, Class IV employees, who were given Rs 2,000 annually, will now receive Rs 3,000 per year," said a senior police officer, while explaining that this is only for non-gazetted ranks.Compensation policy To ensure full compensation for families of police personnel who die in the line of duty, the Chief Minister announced an amendment to the current policy. In cases, where compensation was not fully disbursed to families, the revised order guarantees that the full amount, ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, will now be directly given to the spouse, parents, or legal heirs of the deceased.Accommodation allowance Over 100,000 constables and head constables residing in barracks will see an increase in their accommodation allowance, benefiting more than 25% of low-wage employees. This will result in an additional expenditure of Rs 47 crore for the state govt.Investment in sports With over 1,000 skilled athletes in the force, Chief Minister announced that the current allocation of Rs 70 lakh for training, diet, and facilities will be increased to Rs 10 crore in the next financial year.Buildings and maintenance fundSince 2019, the govt has been constructing multi-storey residential and administrative buildings for police personnel, with around 200 such buildings already completed and more planned. To ensure proper maintenance of these structures, the Chief Minister announced a Rs 1,380 crore corpus fund.
