lucknow: police have come across a racket smuggling iron and steel scrap of the railways. being run allegedly in connivance with an mlc of the city, the racket came into light when policemen at transport nagar outpost intercepted a truck but later released it after rs 7,000 was paid to them allegedly by the contractor. however, the information about the deal was leaked to senior police officials following which the truck was again intercepted and the entire staff of the outpost, including a sub-inspector and four constables, were put under suspension.

it was around midnight when a truck (up 32 z 177) rolled out of the carriage and wagon workshop of the railways at charbagh. the truck was supposed to be loaded with ash. the contract for collecting the ash is said to be with a contractor who is a known associate of the mlc. as the truck reached tn nagar outpost, it was intercepted by outpost incharge chandra bali singh yadav. when the police found huge quantity of iron, steel and other metals concealed under the ash, a deal was struck and the truck was released on payment of rs 7,000. however, the senior sp bb bakshi received information around 8 am about the deal. thereafter the senior officials swung into action and the truck was again intercepted at sarojni nagar. later, an enquiry was instituted on the role of the police conducted by sp, east rajesh pandey. on the basis of the enquiry, tp nagar outpost incharge, si chandra bali yadav and four constables were put under suspension.
