LUCKNOW: A video has surfaced showing the youth who allegedly shot Ram Gopal Mishra during the Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich, aiming a gun at the victim.
The shooting took place at the residence of Abdul Hamid, the prime suspect in the case, where Ram Gopal was killed.
The video captures the moment when Ram Gopal's companions were carrying him down from the roof of a neighbor, Pappu Jaiswal's house, after lifting him from Hamid's residence.
The assailant is seen firing at Ram Gopal's companions as they attempted to rescue him. Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the shooter.
Meanwhile, police are not restricting the movement of people, but most homes in the impacted areas of Mahsi and Hardi tehsils are now occupied primarily by women, as men have fled, fearing police action.
Sources in the police said that, so far, 12 FIRs have been filed, including one for the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra. Over 1,000 unidentified individuals have been named in these FIRs.
Senior police officials mentioned that they are using CCTV footage and news videos to identify those responsible for the arson and vandalism that followed Mishra's murder. The SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) has increased vigilance at the border and has reached out to their counterparts in neighboring regions to monitor "unnecessary" movement of people, according to a senior officer.
