Shastri decries decline of Hindi

ALLAHABAD: "I really feel sorry to see the rapid decline in the usage of Hindi which has been neglected by the people of this country especially Hindi speaking people," noted governor VK Shastri while delivering a speech in a seminar organised on `Use of Hindi in Indian Courts' on the occasion of Hindi Diwas here on Friday.

giving example of former governor of orissa dr sn reddy, he said if a non-hindi person can learn and use hindi why not us who are born in the hindi heart land. he also deplored organisations like hindi sahitya sammelan for this carelessness in development and formation of hindi. making a scathing attack on the rapid rise of english medium schools, he said they charge exorbitant fees. people hanker after schools, as a status symbol. he, however, urged the people especially lawyers and judges to learn and practice hindi. expressing deep anguish over the deteriorating condition of hindi, he said the responsibility of the situation goes to the society. "uttar pradesh did not owe the responsibility towards the mother language and no body cares for the linguistic pollution." he appreciated the efforts of justice v k chaturvedi and justice yatinder singh for allowing hearings in hindi in the high court. the governor also honoured s p goel, pt n p mishra, daya shankar mishra, mahesh joshi, virendra singh, harvansh singh and shriyut srirang for their contribution in the promotion of hindi. justice ps gupta, justice g malviya, sp malviya, justice r b mehrotra, justice n l ganguli, justice r p shukla were also present. he also presented a cheque of rs. 25,000 to the cpmt topper and student of sachdeva coaching shruti patel. senior lawyer vinod chandra dubey conducted the proceedings.
