Seven killed in road mishap

KANPUR: Seven persons, including three employees of the COD and one of the income tax department, were killed and two were injured when the tempo in which they were travelling collided with a tanker coming from the opposite direction in Akbarpur in Kanpur Dehat on Monday morning. The accident victims were returning from the marraige ceremony of a COD, employee Surendra Awasthi's son Narendra Awasthi who is a tempo driver.

surendra awasthi lives in kendranchal colony and the marriage took place in bahadurpur in akbarpur. the dehat police personnel allegedly robbed all the belongings from the person of the deceased. the tempo drivers of the city blocked various crossings and roads demanding compensation for family members of the deceased and action against the guilty police personnel. narendra awasthi 's marriage took place on sunday night and on monday morning the the groom party left bahadurpur for kanpur in two tempos. on the highway, the driver of the tempo which was moving in front saw a rashly driven tanker coming from the opposite direction. he quickly took a sharp turn towards the left and left the road. but the driver of the tempo which was moving behind it could not react immediately and the tanker hit it. the impact of the collision was so powerful that the tempo overturned several times and six persons in it died on the spot itself. three persons sustained injuries. the perons killed were madhav charan bajpai (30), rakesh shukla (35), both cod employees , cb tiwari (40), an income tax employee, the driver of tempo raghvendra (29), his cleaner raj kumar (30) and ram kumar (45). from there, the bodies of all the victims were brought to the mortuary here by the police. the injured were admitted in llr hospital. one of the injured, whose name could not be confirmed was trasferred to madhuraj nursing home. another was transferred to madhuraj nursing home. prabhakar singh (50), the third cod was also taken to regency hospital from the llr were he died while under treatment. as the news of the accident spread here, several tempo drivers lead by their union leaders rushed to the mortury. they parked the tempos across the road in front of moti jheel, gol chauraha and some other places. they demanded that the family members of all the deceased should be given a compensation of rs 5 lakh. mla haji mushtaq solanki also reached the mortuary and negotiated with some administrative officials regarding the demands of the tempo drivers and was assured that some compensation would be given to the inmates of the persons killed in accident and action would be taken against guilty policemen. after this the bloackades were cleared. the tanker driver and his cleaner managed to make a good escape leaving his vehicle behind. an fir was lodged against him in the akbarpur police station.
