LUCKNOW: In a major reshuffle, the state government on Monday morning replaced the police commissioners of Lucknow and Kanpur.
Lucknow police commissioner, DK Thakur, has been replaced by additional director general (ADG), intelligence, SB Shiradkar, who is a 1993-batch IPS officer.
ADG, police headquarters, BP Jogdand has been appointed the police commissioner of Kanpur replacing Vijay Meena.
Both Thakur and
Meena have been kept on the waiting list for the time being. Vijay Meena was appointed Kanpur police commissioner by the Election Commission on January 13, after the then commissioner Asim Arun sought voluntary retirement from services.
DG, UP Homeguards, shifted in same capacity to CB-CIDSenior officials in the home department did not specify any specific reason for the sudden shifting of the two police commissioners.
Thakur had a successful stint of around 20 months in Lucknow during which the police worked during the second wave of Covid-19 by rendering help to people.
Also, the sensational murders of gangsters like Ajit Singh in 2021, and Virendra Thakur in 2022 were worked out in a timebound manner.
Other changes included, DG, UP Homeguards, Vijay Kumar, who was shifted in the same capacity to CB-CID. DG, logistics, BK Maurya was given the additional charge of UP homeguards.
DG, CB-CID, GL Meena was shifted in the same capacity to the cooperative cell of the Uttar Pradesh police.
