lucknow: the vaish samaj will hold a sammelan on april 11 at the madhav auditorium of the saraswati shishu mandir here with the objective of bringing all the sub-castes of the vaish community on a common platform. it will also confer the `vaish ratna’ on former chief minister ram prakash gupta and the 99-year-old freedom fighter and social worker ram charan bhartiya of kanpur.
addressing a press conference, vidya sagar gupta, the mla from lucknow east, said the sammelan would impress upon participants to unitedly work for the depressed classes along with making efforts to remove social inequalities existing in society. the sammelan also seeks to urge the various sub castes of the community such as kesarwani, bishnoi, khandelwal, maheshwari, agarwal and jaiswal to sink their differences and work for the uplift of the community. he said the vaishyas had always worked for the betterment of the society and that even though they constituted 16 per cent of the population, they had always been deprived of their rightful place in governance. in view of this, the sammelan had decided to call all mlas irrespective of their party affiliations at a holi milan function to be held the same day, he said.
