Sahu murder case: Convict granted bail

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has granted bail to the convict Babu Khan in the Shravan Sahu murder case. The court has granted bail to Babu Khan on the basis of parity of the bail granted to co-accused Ajay Patel on Apr 21, 2025, on the basis of his case being similar.A vacation bench of Justice Pankaj Bhatia and Justice Kshitij Shailendra passed the order, allowing the bail plea moved by the appellant Khan along with the appeal . The bench observed, "Considering the reasoning of the coordinate bench in granting bail to co- accused Ajay Patel and adopting the same as contained therein coupled with the fact that the appellant Khan has no substantial criminal antecedents and there is nothing on record to demonstrate that the appellant, if enlarged on bail at this stage, can have any adverse effect on appeal as also considering the fact that the appeal is of the year 2024 and there is no likelihood of the appeal being heard in near future."In-fact, the court had granted bail to Patel saying that the prosecution could not produce any prima facie evidence that Ajay Patel had conspired to kill Shavan Sahu.In the Shravan murder case, the special CBI court had sentenced Babu Khan to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh in Aug 2024. The trial court had sentenced a total of eight accused in this case. Babu Khan had challenged this verdict in the HC.
