LUCKNOW: The enforcement wing of regional transport office has taken note of the growing complaints of over-charging of fares by auto-rickshaw drivers. Commuters are left at the mercy of such drivers who are turning CNG-crisis in the city into a profitable business opportunity for themselves.
"We will not only seize such vehicles but will also cancel their permits who are found involved in over-charging," said Sanjay Nath Jha, ARTO.
The commuters who are fleeced by auto drivers can immediately inform RTO office (at 2436445).
The office has received complaints that due to shortage of autos on routes like Charbagh-Nishatganj and others, some drivers have started charging almost double the fare. Commuters have no option but to pay Rs 10 for a ride from Charbagh to Hazratganj against the fixed fare of Rs 5.
The anomaly gets severe during night and office hours. In a hurry to reach their destination, people mostly avoid getting into an argument. The lesser frequency of city buses and their non-availability on most of the routes does not leave commuters with many options. Though currently it is the shortage of CNG which is acting as a plea for drivers of autos to over-charge, it is almost becoming a regular feature for city commuters.
