Rs 201 cr assets of UP's top-listed mafia seized

Properties worth Rs 201 crore belonging to mafia Sudhir Singh have been seized by the police and district administration of Gorakhpur. Sudhir Singh is on the list of the top 10 criminals in the state and has 39 criminal cases against him. The seized properties were acquired through illegal means and were confiscated under the provisions of the Gangsters Act. The police had previously taken action against the gangster's properties on three occasions and plan to attach more properties worth over Rs 400 crore in the future.

LUCKNOW: Police and district administration of Gorakhpur seized properties worth Rs 201 crore belonging to mafia Sudhir Singh, who is on the list of the top 10 criminals in the state. Police said these properties were amassed using money earned through illegal means and were seized under the provisions of the Gangsters Act.
Gorakhpur superintendent of police Gaurav Grover said that former block pramukh Sudhir Singh has 39 criminal cases against him, not just in Gorakhpur but also in Lucknow.

"These include cases of dacoity and robbery, murder, gangster activities and Arms Act among others," said Grover.
According to police, authorities seized five pieces of land located in Kalesar and Gida areas under Gorakhpur's Sahjanwa tehsil on Saturday. The action was taken in the presence of SDM Ratneshwar Singh and tehsildar Rakesh Kumar Kannaujiya. Police had taken action against the gangster’s properties on three occasions earlier too. Recently, the administration had seized properties worth Rs 100 crore belonging to Sudhir. According to police, Sudhir had forcefully settled some people on a portion of government land and the process to vacate it will begin soon. Sources said that properties worth over Rs 400 crore occupied illegally by the gangster will soon be attached.
