Rs 1,935crore for Lucknow-Kanpur e-way approved, tweets Gadkari
Lucknow: Union ministry of road transport & highways has approved Rs 1,935 crore for the construction of Lucknow-Kanpur expressway. The information was shared by Union minister Nitin Gadkari in a tweet on Thursday.
The six-lane expressway would reduce the travel time between the two cities to 55 minutes from two hours. More than 25,000 commuters daily ply on the route. The expressway will also boost the commercial activities in the region.
“The 63-km expressway will start from Amausi airport and connect with the proposed Ring Road in Kanpur via Unnao. Of the total distance, about 13km-long section of the expressway from Amausi airport till Bunni near Unnao will be elevated,” Diwakar Tripathi, representative of Lucknow MP and defence minister Rajnath Singh, told TOI.
“The linkway will be joined by six flyovers, one railway over bridge, 38 underpasses and three main bridges. It will pass through 11 villages of Lucknow and 30 of Unnao The expressway will be also connected with the under-construction Outer Ring Road in Lucknow,” he added.
The 13 km elevated section will be constructed by National Highways Authority India (NHAI) in the first phase and the remaining by UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority. The deadline to complete the project is 2023.
NHAI project manager N N Giri said, “Tenders for hiring contractors have already begun and around 65% of the land acquisition work is also completed. The construction is expected to start in January, and it would take about two years for the expressway to be completed.”
