Roads still submerged in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: Heavy waterlogging in several localities continued on the second day after Saturday's downpour. Residents complained that water couldn't flow out due to blocked drains in their areas. At several places, people came out of their houses with sticks and brooms to clear drains, but the situation worsened after showers on Sunday.

We complained to the LMC control room but they said they were not going to visit every single place that was waterlogged,“ rued Shweta Singhal, a resident of Ismailganj.

The situation was similar in posh areas of Gomtnagar. Near Kathuata Jheel and Lohia Hospital, ankle-deep water remained till Sunday evening.Along with commuters and residents, ambulances faced a tough time due to traffic congestion .

Seema Gupta of Vastu Khand said, “It's like we are jailed in our own house. We tried placing bricks to pave our way out but it didn't work because the level was high.“

Additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava said, “It is LMC's responsibility to remove water from areas identified for waterlogging. Pumps have been installed there and water is drained out. But, there are several other localities that have come up on their own; waterlogging happens here because they are in low-lying areas, so we can't do anything about them.“
