Lucknow: Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of
Medical Sciences
(RMLIMS) on Monday issued a controversial decree restricting media persons from coverage in the institute without permission from institute authorities.
While the internal order to its security provider companies clearly states that media persons should not be allowed by security personnel on campus from covering the institute without a permit from the chief medical superintendent’s office, the institute in its defence claimed the order was meant for particularly dubious people and not reliable journalists.
The order begins with the statement that coverage by the media at RMLIMS without permission of higher authorities is not permitted on the campus. It later reads that without the permit, media persons should be stopped at once.
However, institution spokesperson
Dr Vikram Singh
said, “The order is not for reliable journalists who can cover the institute as usual. They generally have their own organisations card too which can be produced if ever asked for by any security. But there are certain dubious people on the campus, especially the son of a nurse on deputation who connives with dubious security guards and leaks the inside information. We will not tolerate this but the media is free to cover.”
