LUCKNOW: In a significant move, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary dismissed all the party spokespersons from their positions on Monday.
The decision follows criticism by one of the party spokespersons, Kamal Gautam, of home minister Amit Shah’s recent statement on BR Ambedkar. Sources indicated that the RLD found itself under pressure, as it is part of the BJP-led NDA, with Jayant serving as a union minister in the Modi government.
Sources also mentioned that removing Gautam, a Dalit, from his position could have sent the wrong message to the Scheduled Caste community.
“It was decided to change the entire battery of spokespersons,” said a senior RLD leader. A total of nine state and six national spokespersons were removed.
RLD national secretary Anupam Mishra confirmed that the reshuffle was part of an organizational change the party sought to undertake.
“A new team would come with a new energy and new perspective,” he added.
However, sources noted that the party leadership was unhappy with what they described as the spokespersons’ “loose talk” and “ineffective communication.”
