kanpur: with the killing of notorious criminal ram kishan alias baba (35), the police have succeeded in solving around 41 cases of heinous crime registered against the dreaded criminal at several police stations in the city. the kanpur police gunned down ram kishan and his accomplice vinod marshall near chaudharypur railway crossing, budanpur road, in an encounter on wednesday evening.
they had been absconding for a long time. senior superintendent of police (ssp) bhawesh kumar singh told the times of india that ram kishan alias baba was wanted in several heinous crime cases including robbery, loot, kidnapping and arson. interestingly, ram kishan committed several murders in his crime regime. the ssp added that the police had been in search of ram kishan for a long time and finally they succeeded in netting him on the night of september 12. the police revealed that ram kishan started his criminal activities in the year 1994 and his gang was active in the bithoor-mandhana area. ram kishan and his gang members looted rs 1.20 lakh in cash from a chaubepur trader a few months ago. the cases against ram kishan were registered at several police stations including nazirabad, colonelganj, bajaria, pheelkhana, rai purva, fazalganj and nawabganj under sections 302, 307, 147, 148, 349, 3/5 of the explosives act, 3 under the up gunda act and 25 under the gangster act. the police added that ram kishan had suddenly increased his activities in the kalyanpur area and he had narrow escaped from the police clutches three months ago. police sources disclosed the list of members of the ram kishan gang. they were identified as sunil kumar alias sosa, vinod alias manoj, residents of macrobertganj, sanjay, resident of naya purva, bhupendra and tarun, residents of gwaltoli and gareebe, a resident of laxmipurva. it might be recalled that the police had already arrested seven gang members of ram kishan including pappu gudia five months ago when they were planning to commit a crime. the police revealed that ram kishan was involved in half a dozen cases of murder in the city during the past three years. the police had announced rs 5,000 in cash each as a reward on the head on ram kishan and vinod marshall. the chaubepur police, acting upon a tip off, led by station officer chandresh bharadwaj chased the criminals and asked them to surrender. however, the criminals instead fired on the police patrol which continued to chase them for around half an hour. it came to light that ram kishan along with five accomplice were on vehicles and they were going to puranpur. it was also reported that the police jeep hit one of the bikes, a hero honda, the on which ram kishan and vinod were sitting, and the two fell on the road. the other three gang members managed to escape from the site of the incident. in the cross fire between the police and the criminal duo, the two died. initially, so bharadwaj was uncertain of the identity of the two killed. senior police officials later identified ram kishan.
