LUCKNOW: Film actor turned activist and now a politician, Raja Bundela formally launched a political party, Bundelkhand Congress, on Saturday.
On the occasion, Bundela said his party will contest in 33 seats of Bundelkhand in 2012 assembly elections. The main poll issue of the party would be a separate Bundelkhand state comprising seven districts of UP and four of Madhya Pradesh.

Bundela said that people of Bundelkhand have tried every party but have got only assurance so far. "We decided to float a party on public demand because all other political parties have cheated people," he said.
Bundela said that his ideal is Anna Hazare. He also claimed that he was offered Lok Sabha ticket by Congress party in 2009 Lok sabha elections but he refused because he thought he can serve the people better as an activist. "But now I have realised that the government will only understand the political language," he said, while addressing reporters at Lucknow.
Bundelkhad has been reeling under drought for last several years. People are living in abject poverty. The central and state government have announced packages for development of the region but benefits have not reached the people.
Over 500 debt-ridden farmers in the region have reportedly committed suicide in last one year. UP government has already written to the central government for carving out a separate state of Bundelkhand but UPA led government at the centre has not done anything so far.
