Prof RB Singh elected president of LU teachers’ assn exec body
Lucknow: Physics faculty member RB Singh was elected as the new president of the executive body of the Lucknow University’s Teachers’ Association (LUTA) while ancient Indian history faculty member Anitya Gaurav was elected as the general secretary on Saturday.It was a close contest for the president post between Prof Singh and Dinesh Kumar from the education department. Prof Singh defeated Kumar by 28 votes. He got 197 votes while Kumar got 159 votes and the third candidate from law faculty, Prof Mohd Ahmad got 13 votes.For the post of general secretary, Anitya Gaurav got 197 votes and won by a big margin against geology faculty member Ajay Arya who got 126 votes and sociology department faculty member Pawan Misra who got 87 votes.“I will fulfil all the promises made to teachers, be it to fight for all long pending demands like the issue of teachers’ accommodation on the campus, timely and regular promotion of teachers under the career advancement scheme and the implementation of senior professors’ pay scale as per rules,” said the new LUTA president.Meanwhile, for the post of vice-president, three teachers were elected: commerce faculty Ram Milan, OP Shukla and Persian faculty member Arshad Ali Jafri. A total of 375 votes were cast six were declared as invalid. Others who were elected unopposed are HN Prasad as treasurer, Fazil Ahsan Hashmi, Jitendra Kumar, Prashant Shukla as Arts representatives, Gyan Prakash as commerce representative, Hemendra Kumar Singh as education representative, Alok Kumar as fine art representative, Mrinalini Singh as law representative, Amit Kumar Singh and Ashutosh Singh as science representatives and Akash Asthana, Nand Kishor and Pramod Gupta as joint secretaries.
