LUCKNOW: Chanting hymns and singing bhajans, the 'Prakash Yatra' from Bidar (Karnataka) arrived in Lucknow on Monday to mark the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism and the first of the 10 gurus,

Guru Nanak

Dev.

Retracing Guru Nanak's journey and with an aim to spread the message of humanity given by him, the countrywide yatra had commenced from

Gurdwara

Sri Nanak Jheera Sahib in Bidar on June 2. In the form of '

nagar kirtan

', the yatra travelled from Sarojninagar to Sadar Gurdwara where a 'darbar' was organised. Thousands of Sikhs on foot and in vehicles thronged the area to pay tributes and receive blessings from the Guru amid petal showers and reverberations of 'Jo bole so nihaal...Sat Sri Akal'.

"The yatra will travel through 19 states to reach Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab, where the Guru stayed for several years," said Rajendra Singh Bagga, president of the Lucknow Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee.
