Power team faces protest in HAL
LUCKNOW: An enforcement squad of UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) carried out a raid on the residential campus of HAL in Gomtinagar on Sunday. According to A P Mishra, UP Power Corporation Ltd managing director, the squad came across incidents of power theft in most of the cases. Mishra said the residential complex has some 1006 connections, in which incidents of theft were seen. The squad faced strong protest by residents who sought an explanation for the raids on their campus.
Mishra said they had spoken to the higher authorities of HAL in Bengaluru and were contemplating imposition of single-point connection. Under the system, the UPPCL will provide power supply to one point and install a meter. HAL management may then subsequently distribute the connections to the respective consumers. Mishra said this way they will be able to assess the quantum of power supply made to the HAL against the revenue collected. The system is essentially applied in many residential colonies of central organisations like the Military Engineering Services or even Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. Mishra said the system gave a fair idea of power consumption and the revenue recovered thereafter.
Meanwhile, the UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad has slammed the UPPPCL management for not doing enough to provide adequate power supply to residents. President of the parishad, Avadhesh Verma said the UPPCL had been resorting to rostering to the tune of around 2000 to 3000 Mw on a daily basis. The allegation comes around the time the state-owned power generation company the UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam claims to provide much more power supply as compared to last three years. According to UP Rajya Vidyut Abhiyanta Sangh, the state was getting around 80 million units which was around 4 million units more than previous year.
