Power play propped on chairs
Lucknow: How ordinary people lose their identity amid politics, power struggles and personal ambitions was depicted through powerful dialogues and symbolic storytelling in the play ‘Do Aadmi Do Kursiyan' staged at Sant Gadge Auditorium by Gorakhpur's Roopantar Natya Manch, as part of their Rang-e-Aawargi Festival, on Saturday. Written and directed by Vinay Varma, the plot revolved around two men and two chairs. Actors Vinay Varma and Ashok Singh made an impact with their performances and brought the two characters to life. The play was minimal, with just two chairs and two characters, serving as strong metaphor for authority, conflict and exploitation. After the performance, both artists were honored with mementos. It was emphasised by the organisers that the not only play mirrored current social realities but also inspired audiences to reflect on them. The festival will conclude on Sunday with staging of the play ‘Re-Development', along with live band performance. The event aims to blend art with social concerns, while engaging youth through music and theatre.
