PS in charge, SI suspended for blind-eye to gamblers in Bahraich

Lucknow: A day after raid was conducted on a bakery factory in Nazirpura, resulting in arrest of 12 people involved in gambling in Bahraich, the district police chief suspended the police station in charge of Kotwali, Manoj Kumar Pandey and outpost in-charge Bashirganj, Naipal Singh, on Saturday. Two head constables, Anand Kumar and Vijay Kumar, were also removed.SP Bahraich, Vrinda Shukla, told TOI that action was taken against the police personnel for failing to take effective measures despite being aware of large-scale gambling. During the raid, cash, motorcycles, illegal firearms, and other items were recovered.Shukla said police had been receiving information for several days about large-scale gambling activities in Nazirpura and well under police protection. She formed a joint team consisting of trainee circle officer Harshita Tiwari, SWAT and the rural police. Without alerting local police, the team raided the bakery factory in Nazirpura."The gambling was being carried out at the house of one Chunnan alias Gogey, a zila panchayat member of SP and a history-sheeter of Kotwali Nagar with 22 cases registered against him. His wife was arrested from the spot with an illegal pistol of .32 calibre and live cartridge. Chunnan, along with some others, managed to flee," said Shukla.Those arrested include Vicky Khan, Munna Kumar, Akash Sahu, Prince Tiwari, Mohammad Sunny, Arzu, Jannu Khan, Chand Khan, Hanif, Shanu, Haseeb and Tabassum and they were booked under the Gambling Act and other sections and presented in court on Friday, after which they were sent to jail.Police seized 10 motorcycles, two illegal firearms, ammunition, Rs 41,550 in cash, 13 mobile phones and a deck of cards.
