LUCKNOW: The city police on Thursday detained Hindu Mahasabha national working president Kamlesh Tiwari along with state vice-president Priyanshu Joshi and others when they came out of the office to take out a motorcycle rally in a bid to spread awareness about Nathuram Godse's ideology and why did he kill Mahatama Gandhi.
However, the police only had half a success as a dozen of youths waiting for Tiwari and others managed to take out the rally holding saffron flags with Hindu Mahasabha written on it and shouting slogans like 'Jai Shri Ram' and ‘Hindu Mahasabha zindabad’.

The youths also distributed pamphlets which mentioned five reasons why Godse assassinated Gandhi.
Inspector, Naka Hindola, Vijay Prakash, later told TOI that since the Mahasabha leaders had not taken permission to take out the rally, the police had to detain them.
Earlier, talking to reporters, Tiwari said that he couldn’t understand why the government had problem in eulogising Nathuram Godse when he was not termed as traitor by any court of law. When told that he was a murderer who killed Mahatama Gandhi, Tiwari said that even Lord Ram, Rani Laxmi Bai and Chandrashekhar Azad had killed somebody or the other, but people continue to read and follow their ideologies. Then why only Godse's ideology couldn’t be spread among the masses, he asked. For Hindu Mahasabha, Godse was a nationalist, Tiwari said.
However, BJP spokesman Dr Chandramohan Singh said that time was to not only talk about but also focus on development and nothing else. Dr Singh was replying to a question on whether it was right on part of Hindu Mahasabha to propagate Godse’s ideology. On Hindu Mahasabha leaders’ detention, Dr Chandramohan said that it was the duty of the state government to ensure law and order is maintained.
Talking to TOI, an office-bearer of Hindu Mahasabha confirmed that since only a few youths were able to take out the bike rally, the other programme of performing bhumi pujan at Hyderganj ward's Bhaptamau village in Para police station area could not take place. The Mahasabha has also planned to construct a temple on Godse in Sitapur district.
The announcement has resulted in Tiwari and 25 others being booked for apprehension of breach of peace. The mahasabha members plan to perform bhumi pujan for the temple on January 30, the day Gandhi was shot and which is observed as the Martyrs Day. Interestingly, Mahasabha this time has decided to observe the day as ‘Shaurya Diwas’.
