Police crack whip, 5 held
LUCKNOW: The fear of the high court finally made district police to swung into action on Thursday. While police picked up five expelled student leaders wanted for creating ruckus and indulging in violence in the Lucknow University on November 21, four other accused in the case surrendered in the court and were sent to jail.
While Satyendra Verma Satya was picked up from gate number one on the campus, Pawan Singh and Vinay Shukla were detained from IT College crossing.

Vijay Shankar Pintoo and Sarvesh Pratap Singh were arrested from Hanuman Setu. The arrest of Vijay and Sarvesh was obstructed by former students union presidents Abhishek Singh Ashu and Bajrangi Singh Bajju.
Interestingly, while Ashu and Bajju promised that all the wanted students will surrender before police on Friday at Shaheed Chowk in the university, the police officers were seen giving assurance that those arrested will be kept in the lockup till Thursday and produced before the court on Friday.
But students blocked the road and started raising slogans against police. The drama continued for 15 minutes. Finally, police left with the arrested student leaders from another route.
Last week, Sona Verma, a girl student leader, was arrested on similar charges. Significantly, police have arrested only small-time student leaders so far and ignored 'prominent' student leader associated with the Samajwadi Party.
People said that police have reacted now because they have to submit an action taken report before the high court on January 8.
Earlier, the high court, while hearing a public interest litigation on university crisis, had directed police to act against those creating problem on the campus. "Clearly, police action was due to fear of the court," said teachers.
