LUCKNOW: An honour, long overdue came the way of Ram Sharan Das and Om Prakash Sharma on Tuesday, when the Vidhan Parishad unanimously chose the two for accolades and encomiums following their outstanding contribution to the House.The two are also the longest serving members.The ball for the 'samman samaroh' was set in motion by chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav who was personally present in the House to do the honours.
He said the two had set an example of high parliamentary and democratic practises through their conduct which had its roots in 'sadhana, tapasya, sangharsh.'
Speaking about Om Prakash Sharma, the CM said his contribution to attain respectability for the teaching community and the teaching profession was commendable and would always be remembered.The erudite scholar in him could speak with conviction and indepth knowledge on any field or issue be it political or social in nature. He added that Sharma also held a view on each issue. The CM also referred to the book written by the teacher leader.Later both Das and Sharma were presented with a shawl and a momento.The CM acquised to the request of Panchanan Rai that a book be published of the speeches made by the two leaders. He called for the constitution of a committee for the same and said the cost of the publication would be borne by the government.
