Panchayat bypolls: SP wins 4 seats, BJP clinches 5

LUCKNOW: In byelections for nine posts of the zila panchaat chairman on Tuesday , the principal Opposition Samajwadi Party retained four seats while BJP won five.
Out of the 11seats, Chandrapal Singh (Rampur) and Suman Singh (Lakhimpur Kheri) of BJP were elected unopposed, said state election commissioner SK Agarwal while declaring the result.
The bypolls were to be held for the 11posts of the district board chiefs, after the incumbent had to either resign or lost the no-confidence motion.Samajwadi Party candidates won in Hathras, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad and Kaushambhi while the BJP won the Auraiya, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Mau and Santkabir Nagar seats.
