Over 2 lakh UP school students to get training in AI as part of skill development mission

Lucknow: Now, students from Class IX to XII will study Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the vocational training programmes under ‘Project Praveen' initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM).The initiative, aimed at empowering the youth technologically, will benefit over 2 lakh students across 1,200 schools.Under this, a specialised four-hour course titled ‘AI For All' is being implemented for all trainers and students in govt secondary schools. Through this course, students will strengthen their problem-solving abilities, creative thinking, and digital literacy.According to the director, UPSDM, Pulkit Khare, the AI course will help students develop essential skills like data analysis and innovative problem-solving, besides preparing them for competition."Practical AI knowledge in specific trades like tailoring, healthcare, and IT will enable students to work smarter and more efficiently in their respective fields," he said.Reflecting student interests, specialised four-hour AI modules have been developed for popular job roles such as IT customer care executive, self-employed tailor, healthcare, digital mitra, and soap makers. Before the commencement of the academic session 2026-27, UPSDM has asked all instructors to complete the training for the ‘AI For All' course. Additionally, trainers of the five primary job roles will undergo a specialised advanced subject-specific course.Project Praveen is a comprehensive 210-hour free skill development programme designed for govt secondary school students. Alongside regular studies, the programme imparts job-specific skills in sectors such as IT, beauty, healthcare, and electronics."The AI course will empower students with a fundamental understanding of AI and its practical applications, turning future technological challenges into opportunities," Khare said.
