Restaurant owner arrested for spitting on roti
Lucknow: Police arrested a restaurant owner on Wednesday after a video surfaced showing him allegedly spitting on a tandoori roti while preparing it. A team from the Food Safety Department also sealed the restaurant located in the Ramnagar police station area in Sudhiyamau town of Barabanki. Police said that the viral video was approximately six months old.According to police, the viral video is from a hotel in Sudhiyamau town. In the 51-second clip, the man is seen preparing a roti and spitting on the bread before placing it in the tandoor. This act was recorded by someone on camera and shared online, sparking outrage among social media users. After the video was reported to the authorities, a joint team of police and the Food Safety Department raided the restaurant and sealed it. The man seen spitting on the roti is the restaurant owner, identified as Mohammad Irshad, a resident of Naviganj in Fatehpur Kotwali. Additional Superintendent of Police Chiranjivi Nath Singh said that after reviewing the viral video, the accused was taken into custody and a case had been registered against him under several sections, including those related to spreading diseases that endanger human life. Recently, similar incidents have been reported in other districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Saharanpur and Baghpat. The state government has proposed legislation to make such actions a non-bailable offense with severe penalties.
