LUCKNOW: A socio-political organisation, Swaraj Abhiyan, has demanded the government should release the CCTV footage of violence and vandalism that took place during protest against the citizenship law in Lucknow on December 19.

In a press statement, state member of the organization, Dinkar Kapoor, also asked the state government to order an impartial court-monitored probe into the incident.

Kapoor is an associate of former IPS officer SR Darapuri, who is currently in jail in connection with anti-CAA protest even though he was under house arrest.

“Since the government and police have released videos and photos of violence in different parts of the state, CCTV footage of

should also be released. It is clear from live videos streamed by activist Sadaf Jafar, who was also arrested, that cops were not acting against anti-social elements in the peaceful protest,” said Kapoor.

“We have already lodged a complaint against the arrest of Darapuri through Swaraj Abhiyan on the chief minister’s public grievance portal. It is clearly a political arrest since Darapuri is a vocal critic of the government. He was posting peace messages on social media when he was arrested,” he added.
