LUCKNOW: An out-of-control truck mowed down four members of a family on Ayodhya Highway, resulting in their untimely demise in Chinhat area of Lucknow on Saturday.

The road accident unfolded right in front of BBD University, where the truck rammed over with the hapless victims.


Among the deceased was an eight-month pregnant woman. The ill-fated couple and their two innocent children, who resided in a roadside hut died.

The victims were identified as 35-year-old Umesh, 32-year-old Neelam Devi, and their two children, 4-year-old Golu and 13-year-old Sunny. The entire family, hailing from Jaitpur, Barabanki, was wiped out by the truck, said the police.

The locals informed police about the incident following which a team was rushed to the scene, sending all the bodies for post-mortem examination.

DCP East Zone, Prabal Pratap Singh said that the errant truck driver was detained while the sand-laden truck involved in the incident seized.

"The family had been living in a makeshift roadside hut. The victims were identified as the kin of a tile worker. Miraculously, 7-year-old Vaishnavi, who was asleep in the hut, narrowly escaped," said the police.
