LUCKNOW: The police on Thursday arrested absconding criminal

Assam. Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his arrest on October 17. Dinesh was named in a case of escape from police custody after being sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012.
Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Piyush Mordia said that recently the police started a crackdown against criminals under ‘Operation Prahar’ to track down criminals who have been absconding for a long time on the directions of the police commissioner.
“We have taken about 100 absconding criminals under the operation and plan to arrest them soon. They are spread in different parts of the country including West Bengal, Delhi and Maharashtra. Cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh have been announced on them,” said Mordia. As per the latest data provided by the officer, as many as 49 criminals were arrested. The accused, Dinesh Tiwari (40), a native of Deoria was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in a murder case of 2009.
“We got a tip-off on his location and a police team was sent to Diphu city in Assam to arrest Tiwari. There are seven cases lodged against him across the state. The cases include murder, kidnapping, attempt to murder and Gangster Act from Jaunpur in 2010”, said DCP East, Prachi Singh.
