NR officer set to bag e-marketplace award

Lucknow: Earlier in March, an emergency request was raised to senior divisional material manager (Sr DMM) of NR Lucknow division by railway hospital (Cariappa road), for vials of Koate DVI 500 IU injection for a 10-year-old boy suffering from an ultra-rare platelet deficiency, congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (CTTP).Sr DMM Krishna Murari contacted the registered supplier for vials who quoted around Rs 23 lakh for six months doses. However, after some research, Murari, a 2009 IRSS (Indian railways store service) officer, found the vials could be bought at a cheaper price, following which railways invited a Spanish multinational pharmaceutical company which imports the vials for CTTP patients in India, to register itself on Indian government run government e-marketplace (GeM), so that the lowest bidder could be selected for the vials.“We bought around 216 vials for merely Rs 11 lakh — 50% less than what was being offered before the tender was floated on GeM. Since the kid will require Koate DVI 500 IU for his lifetime, saving more than Rs 10 lakh for injection was important from the perspective of railways to further buy the vials in future,” said Murari, who will be named winner of Kreta Vikreta Gaurav Samman Samaroh 2023 in ‘GeM star buyers’ category, at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi by cabinet minister Piyush Goyal on June 26. He is the only central government officer to be awarded for e-marketplace.According to Indian railways, Murari managed to save Rs 11 crore in 2022-23. “Because of Sr DMM Krishan Murari’s efforts, NR Lucknow division is the first and only in Indian railways to conduct all financial transactions related to service and goods procurement via online mode. There is no option for offline in order to omit any kind of kickbacks to anyone in the railways,” said the official.
