Lucknow: The case of the LU professor who made a comment on the Kashi Vishwanath temple is becoming more political as the
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday came out in support of him.
Prof Ravi Kant, a Dalit teacher, was threatened by ABVP activists on Lucknow University campus on Tuesday for allegedly hurting Hindu religious sentiments. The comments were made during a debate in a YouTube news channel on the Gyanvapi mosque dispute.
An ABVP student leader has also lodged an FIR against the professor.
On Thursday, AAP questioned why police have not registered an FIR on Kant’s complaint against the students, while it promptly registered a complaint against him on the students’ application.
A delegation of AAP met Kant, who teaches Hindi, at his residence and later issued a statement that no compromise can be made on the right to freedom and speech of the professor.
The delegation comprised Ajay Gupta, SKS Rathore, Durgesh Chaudhary, Amit Chopra, Vinod Kumar Pal, Syed Mohammad Taqi and Afroz Alam. It demanded adequate security for the professor and his family and registration of FIR against those who have been named by the teacher in his complaint.
