The order came after Magsaysay awardee Sandeep Pandey and other activists were detained by the police when protesting outside a prominent school in the city, demanding implementation of the RTE Act.

The schools have been given two days to respond, failing which the administration will recommend to the school board concerned to cancel recognition of the school.

As per the official count, 261 children were to be admitted to 21 schools under the RTE Act. However, only 54 children were taken in by nine schools, leaving 207 children without admission.
