LUCKNOW: There is no bird flu in Uttar Pradesh. Just rumours and panic. This is the message from UP animal husbandry director BP Singh to all those who have shunned chickens and eggs ever since the avian flu scare hit the country. "What we have in the state is just fear and nothing else," said Singh. "We sent 227 serum samples to high security laboratory in Bhopal for testing and 40 results which have come so far are all negative," he said, adding "these serum of domestic birds had been taken from places situated near a bird sanctuary where there is maximum possibility of the spread of the virus because of arrival of migratory birds." He further added that the people of UP have have no cause to worry for 50 per cent of birds used in state poultry business are imported from Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, which are free from the flu.
