Meena Kumari (32) of Nepal and Rahul Yadav (29) of Mirzapur were feared drowned after the car they were travelling in accidentally fell into the Gomti near Samta Mulak crossing bridge, connecting Paper Mill Colony road, on Tuesday night.

Additional deputy commissioner of police, east zone, Syed Abbas Ali said that they managed to contact elder sister of Meena, identified as Reena. "We came to know that Meena was in Lucknow for last three years and working in a beauty parlour owned by Abhishek in Vikas Nagar," Ali said.

The polcie said that Rahul, a native of Mirzapur, was working as helper in the same parlour. However, the police are yet to contact family members of Rahul, who, they said, was also working since the last two years in the same parlour. The police further said that in the evening a distant relative of Meena, identified as Pappu Mishra, who works in Varanasi cantonment board, had visited Lucknow. But he denied having any relationship with Meena. A senior officer said that they would question Abhishek and Dushyant once they come out of trauma.

Meanwhile, the two, who were rescued in the incident, said that they used to visit the spot along with their pet daily. tnn
