LUCKNOW: The All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM) has donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the Prime Minister's national relief fund as a token amount towards the relief efforts being undertaken by the central and state governments and many NGOs in rain-ravaged Uttarakhand.
Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan, president of AIMMM, appealed to the Muslim organisations, NGOs and individuals to come forward and offer all possible relief help to people affected by the natural calamity in Uttarkhand.
Dr Khan expressed satisfaction that a number of Muslim organisations including Jamaat-e Islami Hind and Jamiat Ulama-e Hind (Mahmood Madni group) have already started relief work in Uttarkhand and that Muslims from across the country are sending relief materials and assistance to help the victims.
Delhi-based Charity Alliance, headed by Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan, also has sent a cheque of Rs 50,000 to the Prime Minister's national relief fund for Uttarkhand victims. In his letter to the prime minister, Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan said that the Uttarakhand tragedy has stirred the whole nation. "The Muslim community too fully shares the sorrow and loss of our brothers and sisters affected by the calamity. We offer our sincerest sympathies to the nation and to the families of the victims and affected."
