NEW DELHI: A murder accused with a Rs 1 lakh reward was killed in a police encounter during a joint operation by Mainpuri Police and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force's Agra unit near Tarapur Cut bridge on Monday night, authorities reported.
Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said that the accused, identified as Jitendra, was injured during an exchange of fire with law enforcement officials.
"Jitendra was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him 'brought dead'," the state police chief said.
Police recovered several items from the scene, including a motorcycle, a pistol, cartridges, and bullet shells.
The accused had multiple criminal cases registered against him in Hathras, including serious charges of murder, attempted murder, and robbery.
The encounter took place during a joint operation conducted by local police and the Special Task Force, leading to the death of the wanted criminal who had been evading arrest.
