LUCKNOW/JHANSI: A contingent of UP Police that reached Punjab’s Ropar jail on Tuesday morning took jailed gangster-turned-politician
Mukhtar Ansari into custody to bring him back. The convoy carrying Mukhtar is likely to reach Banda jail by Wednesday morning.
Around 1.30 am on Wednesday, the convoy had reached Sajeti police station in Kanpur Dehat, just 100 km from its destination.
Senior police officials in UP said the convoy headed from Ropar to Ambala Cantonment towards Kurukshetra and via Sonipat taking the Eastern Peripheral and then enter UP. The convoy covered 900km distance and took three short stoppages after every 300km.Mukhtar has been accommodated with his wheelchair in the ambulance which is being escorted by six police vehicles and a Vajra Vahan.
Banda docs medical team to keep 24-hr vigil on don’s healthIn Banda, security arrangements are well in place around the jail compound while police have been put on high alert in three adjoining districts: Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, and Mahoba. A police outpost and no-vehicle zone has been created outside the Banda jail. Fifteen jail warders along with 20 other jail personnel have been deployed at the Banda jail.
A special medical team has been constituted by the Banda district hospital to attend to Mukhtar.
Principal, Banda Medical College, Dr Mukesh Yadav has constituted a team of four doctors led, by HoD medicine Dr Abhishek Raj, to monitor Mukhtar’s health round-the-clock. Banda administration ordered the setting of a health team on the direction of the
Supreme Court.
Dr Yadav told TOI that arrangements for dialysis and oxygen have also been made inside the premises. The other doctors in the team are Dr SK Yadav, Dr Saran Rajpoot, and Dr RC Arun, all specialists of different fields. “We have made all arrangements as per the instructions and available facilities. In cases there will be any medical complication then we will have to refer him to a better facility,” he said.
Meanwhile, UP jail minister Jai Kumar Singh Jakki told reporters in Lucknow that additional CCTVs have been installed in Banda jail which will be monitored by jail headquarters from Lucknow. “Mukhtar will be lodged in the same barrack in which he was lodged last time before being shifted to Ropar jail,” he said.
