Lucknow: Prisons department on Wednesday suspended Azamgarh jailor and three others for laxity. Those suspended were jailor Ravindra Saroj, deputy jailor Shreedhar Yadav, and two jail warders, Ajay Verma and Ashutosh Singh. A departmental action has also been initiated against the suspended officials.
Director General, prisons, Anand Kumar, said that during a raid of Azamgarh DM Vishal Bhardwaj and SP Anurag Arya on July 26, 12 mobile phones, chargers and many objectionable articles were recovered from the barracks of the jail.
Another senior official said that when these officials were asked how prohibited items reached the barracks, they could not give any reply.
On Tuesday, top district officials made a surprise inspection of the barracks. During the raid, mobile phones, mobile chargers and intoxicants were recovered.
The DM told journalists that 12 mobile phones, chargers and many objectionable items were recovered from different barracks. “Jail officials have been warned and their accountability would be fixed. Apart from administrative, legal action would also be initiated in this connection,” he had said on Tuesday.
