LUCKNOW: Protesting against the failure of the local police in tracing a housewife and her two children missing in highly mysterious circumstances since October 12, 2009, a mob of irate locals went berserk. The mob ransacked the Jigna police station in Mirzapur district and torched the police jeep and a police motorcycle parked there on Wednesday afternoon.

In another incident, a mob of students went on a rampage outside their campus in Ambedkarnagar, damaged a series of shops and makeshift stalls on the roadside on Thursday morning. Irked over the arson, local traders staged a road blockade near Aallapur village demanding action against the students. The protest was dissolved after police assured action against the students involved in the arson.
Reports from Mirzapur said Sugna Devi, daughter of Rajdhar Bind of Partiyapur village of Mirzapur was married to Shiv Bahabur Bind of the neighbouring Bahuriyapur village. While Sugna was suffering from mental imbalance, Shiv Bahadur was dumb and deaf. The couple had two sons aged 9 and 5 years.
On October 12 last, Sugna and her sons reportedly disappeared from her husband's house in highly mysterious circumstances. Rajdhar lodged an FIR with the local Jigna police in connection with the incident.
When the police failed to make any breakthrough in the case, Rajdhar led by his village pradhan Malik Singh alias Dilip Singh with around 200 local residents staged a road blockade on Mirzapur-Allahabad highway throwing traffic out of gear.
Attempts of the senior police and administrative officials to pacify the protesters were marred by the local police station incharge when he threatened the protesters of dire consequences if they did not end their protest. This left the protesters angry, ensuing in a heavy stone pelting at the police. A section of the mob also reached the Jigna police station situated nearby and torched a police jeep and motorcycle parked there. The mob also ransacked the police station office, damaging property and records. The situation was brought under control after additional force was rushed to the site to disperse the mob.
In the Ambedkarnagar incident, students went on a rampage damaging shops and property outside the SN Inter College in Indipur locality under Aallapur police station after a student of class 11 was hit by a mini-truck belonging to a local trader. Agitated over the mishap, students of the college went on a rampage damaging shops and property. This led to a protest by the traders which ended after the police assured stringent action against the students who indulged in violence.
