LUCKNOW: Kick starting the preparations for the next general elections, Congress general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh Madhusudan Mistry on Monday began interviewing UP's sitting parliamentarians on Monday. In the first batch, Mistry met with Moradabad MP Mohd Azharuddin, Bahraich MP Kamal Kishore Commando and Kheri MP Zafar Ali Naqvi. Speaking to TOI, Mistry said, "I plan to meet all the MPs over the next few days in order to get a feedback from them on how the party can assist them in their preparations for the Lok Sabha elections."
Mistry, who clarified he was, as member of the central election committee, in charge of ticket distribution in Madhya Pradesh only, said the Congress party will focus its energies on ways to consolidate and retain the party's existing tally of 22 Lok Sabha seats.

"After this, we will look at ways to increase our tally in the rest of the state." He also said he will continue meeting batches of four MPs each over the next few days.
Later this month, on December 13 and 14, Mistry, along with other state leaders of the Congress party, will also meet in Varanasi to plan ahead of the party's two-day agitation against the UP government. In the two-day protest on December 26 and 27, the party's leaders plans to stage a sit-in outside the office of the Varanasi divisional commissioner's office for non-implementation of the Food Security Act in UP. Though the state has already started the groundwork for implementing the Act, Congress has maintained the it is dragging its feet in the implementation of the scheme.
