LUCKNOW: It was after 25 years that Dr Mehdi Raza had come back to his alma mater, King George’s Medical University (KGMU), and the memories it triggered overwhelmed him. Dr Raza came all the way from England, where he is settled now, to meet his classmates and teachers from his batch of 1990.
Celebrating their silver jubilee reunion on Saturday, a total of 115 alumni out of the batch of 180 came from across the globe to meet up friends and their families.
It was also the first time that KGMU facilitated 65 former teachers that taught a batch. “Almost all the teachers that taught the 1990 batch have been honoured by the ex-students. This is the first time this has happened. It was only 4-5 teachers who were generally honoured earlier,” said organizing secretary Dr Sandeep Tiwari.
“The bonding of our years of youth was so strong that it felt like it yesterday when we were together. We have been teasing each other about crushes and hostel activities, lecture discussions and the five years that we spent together,” said Dr Rajiv Tandon who is now settled in Australia.
There were many who had never attended a reunion before but the last minute realisation of losing a one time opportunity of celebrating their batch’s silver jubilee caught up with them. The batch has organised a three-day celebration which saw a fashion show and cultural program of the alumni on Friday and will be followed by a picnic on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
