Kailash Masoom - a young film-maker from Uttar Pradesh - will portray Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and Dalit icon Mayawati on celluloid.
LUCKNOW: Now, 'Maya Memsaab' is all set to make a screen debut. Kailash Masoom ��� a young film-maker from Uttar Pradesh ��� will portray Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and Dalit icon Mayawati on celluloid. The film, titled "Behenji", will be based on the life's trials, tribulations and achievements of Mayawati. A National School of Drama (NSD) passout, Kannan will play the lead role of in the flick, to be produced at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore.
The producer and the director of the film are likely to meet Mayawati in near future, said a BSP leader known for his proximity to the BSP supremo. He added that all efforts would be made to complete the film in a record time. Actress to play the lead, Kannan has acted in many films and wishes to spend considerable time with the BSP supremo, ostensibly to know her well, said sources.
"Though a number of financiers have offered possible help for the film, its USP would definitely be the BSP president,"said a member of the filmmakers team. This is not the first time that someone has announced a film on Mayawati. A few years ago, an entrepreneur from Lucknow had announced a film on her life. He, however, shelved the project after making a few loud claims. He was also unable to secure Mayawati's nod for the proposed project.
Mayawati has reportedly told her men to convey to the filmmaker that the story of the film should essentially cover the struggles of her life. There should not be any deviation from the truth, Mayawati is believed to have told her partymen. It is supposed that Mayawati will be depicted as an iron lady, who brought about a change in the essentially male-dominated political spectrum of Uttar Pradesh. A famous Kannada actor is scheduled to play the role of Kanshiram. Many known characters of BSP will also find place in the film, said a party leader.
