LUCKNOW: A video from the Kotwali police station area in Deoria has gone viral on social media, showing a man being brutally beaten with a belt after being stripped naked on suspicion of mobile theft.

In the viral footage, the victim, later identified as Chandan Kumar, is seen lying face down on a sofa while one man sits on his head, and another mercilessly strikes his private parts and back with a belt.

The assailant also records the act on his mobile phone, while a third accomplice films the incident separately. The accused later shared the video from multiple social media accounts.

As soon as the video reached the Salempur Kotwali police, it created an uproar in the department. Subsequently, teams were formed to apprehend the culprits.

Late Tuesday night, police detained Rohit Srivastava, a resident of Haraiya Ward, who was seen assaulting the victim with a belt and was sent to jail on Thursday.

However, the victim has not yet filed a formal complaint. The police are actively trying to locate him.

According to police circle officer, Salempur, Deepak Shukla, Rohit worked as a cashier at a brick kiln, where the assault took place.

The victim, a resident of Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur, has been summoned to provide a statement, following which further legal action will proceed.

"We have also traced another man spotted in the video and efforts are on to arrest him as well," said CO Shukla.
