Lucknow: A Bareilly-based businessman was booked for opening fire outside a temple in Hazratganj.
The accused was booked for revelry firing and negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance besides other relevant sections of the IPC. The incident took place on October 5 during the celebration of Shastra Puja (worship of weapons) on Dussehra.
As per the FIR, sub inspector Arun Pratap Saroj was passing via the Valmiki tri section and heard a gunshot near Shiv Temple there.
The team immediately overpowered the man and interrogated him. He disclosed his name as
Giridhar Gopal of Bareilly district, and he did the firing to celebrate the Shastra Pujan. The team checked his gun license and found it genuine with the expiry date in 2027.
Police took the weapon in its possession and seized it,” said SHO, Hazratganj,
