Lucknow: The 594 km main carriageway of the Ganga expressway — the longest expressway in UP connecting Meerut and Prayagraj — has been completed, officials said on Saturday.Chairing a review meeting of the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority at PICUP bhawan, industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi directed officials to expedite the remaining works so that the expressway can be opened at the earliest.

Officials said that before vehicular movement begins, extensive safety measures are being put in place. Unlike earlier expressways that relied largely on wire fencing, the Ganga expressway is being equipped with a permanent boundary wall and metal beam crash barriers to prevent unauthorised crossings by villagers and stray cattle. Construction of boundary walls and crash barriers is underway on nearly 295 km. Nandi also instructed officials to ensure that foundation stones for all proposed expressways and link corridors are laid by Oct.
