On Monday, Verma was held after an encounter on IIM Road. His four acquaintances have been rounded up.

said a police team were checking vehicles near Bhitauli crossing when Verma tried to dodge and sped towards IIM Road but his bike skidded and he started firing on police team.

Police also fired hitting Verma.

Verma, 35, is a native of

Lakhimpur Kheri

. According to police, he and his aides had committed the Rs 50 lakh loot in the house of a businessman on March 12.

Police also recovered some jewellery and cash from the accused along with a country-made pistol and a two-wheeler. Verma has more than a dozen criminal cases against him in Lucknow and other districts.

Additional deputy commissioner of police, north zone,

Prachi Singh

said that Verma was the mastermind behind the heist. He had conducted a recce.

“We are questioning him about the rest of the jewellery and the role of his aides,” said Singh.
