Madhumita case: Madhumani emerges main accused
LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) appears to be closing in on the Madhumita murder case with mafia-turned-politician Amarmani Tripathi''s wife emerging as the main person behind the crime.
While Madhumani is set to land as the key accused in the murder, Amarmani is likely to be charged with tampering of evidence, CBI sources said.
The investigating agency is now progressing on the lines being provided by the two accused arrested, Rohit Chaturvedi and Santosh Rai.

They have corroborated the theory that it was Madhumani who arranged for Rs 2 lakh spent on hiring the killers. A cousin of Amarmani, Rohit, lives in Gorakhpur and runs a Cyber Cafe. He is said to be closer to Madhumani than the politician, CBI sources said quoting Rohit after interrogation.
Rohit being closer to Madhumani was fully aware of the happiness and sorrows in her life. He was, therefore, fully aware of the Madhumita episode too.
Rohit has reportedly admitted that Madhumani had explained in detail how Madhumita was threatening to upset her life by insisting to bear the child, whose father was reportedly Amarmani.
Santosh is also learnt to have corroborated that Rohit told him about how Madhumita was a cause of worry for "Bhabhi" (Madhumani).

As per the evidence available with the investigators, Madhumani was in Lucknow on May 9 - the day of the murder. She left for Gorakhpur a little after noon and was thereafter constantly in touch with Rohit as substantiated by the call details of the cellphone and landline used by Rohit and Madhumani.
"This was one reason why we sought the police remand of Rohit first instead of Santosh despite the latter being the only person in the know of the identity and whereabouts of the second assailant who visited the Paper Mill colony residence of Madhumita on the fateful day," conceded a source associated with the murder investigations.
Armed with all details of Rohit''s complicity in the case, CBI is set to round up Madhumani. Sources said that there was little that needs to be verified or collected before the CBI could frame charges against Madhumani.
"It is all about consolidating the evidences to the extent of making them irrefutable," said a source in CBI commenting on the need for delay in rounding up Madhumani.
