Madhumani remains in Amar's 'shadow'

LUCKNOW: Despite being named as the first suspect, Madhumani - wife of former minister Amarmani Tripathi - has managed to skip the spotlight of investigation and media glare. Although Amarmani allegedly had physical relations with Madhumita and remains a suspect, Madhumani now emerges as a more probable suspect. More so, sources close to the Tripathis claim that Amarmani is also frightened of the fact that if his wife lands in trouble, she might pull down more skeleton from her husband's cupboard, pushing his political career further back.On day of the murder, Nidhi had told the media that Amarmani had illicit relations with the poetess and accused Madhumani of getting her sister murdered. While Amarmani came under the spotlight because of his alleged relations with Madhumita, Madhumani was virtually forgotten. This also happened, because despite being cornered from all side Amarmani never even indicated that it was his wife who had more reasons to get Madhumita eliminated than himself. The fear of a backlash in the form of being exposed of all his deeds, saw him tightlipped on this aspect, sources close to the Tripathis said. Next, even the computer print out of the call details of Madhumita's cellphone certify that on the day of the murder, a series of calls were made from the Maharajganj residence of Amarmani from the landline telephone number listed in his name in the information department's telephone directory. It was possibile that the calls were made by Madhumani. These two form more than an adequate reason to leave the needle of suspicion pointing towards Madhumani though not actually absolving her husband. The district police investigating the case till the time the probe was transferred to the CB CID, had got Madhumani under surveillance. Madhumani, sources said, was in touch with some of Amarmani's lieutenants and anyone whom she would have asked for such a favour, was unlikely to refuse. Another intriguing fact is that Madhumani hails from Western Uttar Pradesh and two of her close relatives allegedly had several criminal cases listed against them. These two kin of Madhumani are capable of plotting most sensational murders. Madhumita's mother Shanti Kumari Shukla also had told TNN recently that the investigators were not pursuing the right line and that they should look at the other aspects related to Madhumita's life. The domestic help of Madhumita, Deshraj had cited instances when Madhumita had spoken to Madhumani on phone. Deshraj revealed he could tell by the expletives which Madhumita used that it was Madhumani she was talking to. In her diary where Madhumita had written that MT was not happy with AMT relations with her. Madhumita had also described MT as someone whom she cannot stand for a minute and vice-versa. While both Amarmani and wife Madhumani allegedly were in touch with Madhumita for different reasons, the CB-CID team appears reluctant to grill either of them.
